Dozens of government apprentices and managers attended a networking event hosted by Hawk Training at the prestigious Churchill Room in the heart of Whitehall. The location was particularly fitting as it coincided with Remembrance Day and it was the very room where Winston Churchill and the royal family greeted the crowds celebrating the end of World War II 70 years ago in 1945. Senior government figures and apprentices themselves delivered a number of presentations.

Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Harriett Baldwin MP, gave an address to delegates. She said: “I am delighted to see so many apprentices choosing the Civil Service. Since 2010, Hawk Training have recruited 228 apprentices for the Civil Service, across a variety of departments and across the UK. Just in HM Treasury, we’ve welcomed 53. The success rates – at 95% - have been particularly impressive, and well above the national average. And in my own department, we’ve managed to meet our target of having 5% of our workforce as apprentices. This has been a win-win scheme, and we’re going to continue it right across the country.”

Hawk works with around half of all government departments. A number were represented on the day with apprentices and managers from departments including Cabinet Office, HM Treasury, HMRC, Privy Council, Department for Local Communities & Local Government, Wales Office and even Number 10 Downing Street.
