How rewarding is an apprenticeship?

Written by Annalisa Deufemia | Mar 3, 2016 7:09:00 AM

An apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to earn whilst you train and is extremely significant in today’s job market.  Apprenticeships offer the same prospects and business roles as regular employment, plus added support from expert course and career advisors along the way. There are a variety of apprenticeships available across all sectors of employment from childcare apprenticeships, to IT and business administration

What are the benefits?

As well as being immersed in an active working environment with like-minded people you are entitled to the national minimum wage. You will be paid for your normal working hours which will be a minimum of 30 hours a week, which means at the least you will be paid £99 a week.  And depending on the profession, the average is around £190. You will also be paid for your training which is usually one day a week and you’ll get at least 20 days paid holiday a year, plus bank holidays. Your employer may even give you an allowance for expenses paid on tools, equipment or even uniform. As well as earning relevant qualifications and having hand-on work experience, apprentices often receive the same treatment and perks as other employees, such as pension schemes, union representation, and maybe even leisure facilities.

What will I achieve?

During an apprenticeship you are guaranteed to earn nationally recognised qualifications qualifications such as National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Functional Skills qualifications, across all professions. You’ll enhance your CV and build a portfolio of work experience making contacts across your desired sector.  The apprenticeship allows you to develop competence and confidence in your work and will increase your value in the employment market.  Once you have finished your apprenticeship, you’ll also leave with a valuable reference, which is a solid endorsement of your skills and talents from a respected professional in the industry.
