Big congratulations to our apprentice, Ryan Emmerson for winning this year’s London Borough Apprentice of the Year Award.
Ryan has come so far since the start of his apprenticeship, read Ryan’s story and learn his ‘top tips’ for apprentices:
Ryan says, “I first found out about apprenticeships in my second year of sixth form in 2013. I was on the fence about whether to go to university or start work after leaving. I attended a workshop run by Sutton Council, Chris Jones – who is now a colleague.
The workshops explained what apprenticeships are and took us through the benefits of being an apprentice.
I started working for Sutton Council and took on a varied role in my apprenticeship ranging from finance work, to performance management, to being a digital ambassador for my team. I have helped manage various processes such as organising the submission of our team’s appraisals to the corporate team, as well as organise the movement of my team over to the new IT infrastructure back in 2015.
My apprenticeship provider, Hawk Training helped me greatly in managing my time and provided me with a great tutor who runs helpful workshops to improve my core skills.
My apprenticeship has had a massive impact on my life and has given me the opportunity to:
My colleagues in the Opportunity Department nominated me for the award."
What Ryan’s Colleagues had to say:
“Ryan’s organisational, project management and ICT skills have developed significantly throughout his apprenticeship. His ability and support has become a significant factor in the team’s excellent reputation corporately and with external partners.”
“He is confident, persistent and thorough in all of the tasks he is given and this has been a key reason why he has been given additional, more senior responsibility and why as a team he has become an invaluable member of the team.”
