Christmas is an exciting time of year for many, however, we also understand that it can prove to be a lonely time of the year for some. As such, here are some top tips on helping combat loneliness at Christmas, as well as sharing some safety measures for nights out during this festive period.
Loneliness at Christmas
Many of us see the festive season as a time to get together and spend time with our loved ones, for many, this can result in heightened feelings of loneliness at Christmas.
It’s a time when people are reminded of the loss of loved ones or anxious or just feeling overwhelmed to attend one of the many social events.
We would like to share some tips:
- Sign up to a festive workshop – getting creative can help distract you from feelings of loneliness.
- Reach out to an old friend – Sending a Merry Christmas text can be the perfect ice breaker.
- Have a honest conversation about how you are feeling. Do this with people who care about you and your wellbeing.
- Run or exercise.
- Read a good book.
- Aim to talk to at least one person a day.
- Take time wrapping Christmas presents.
- Volunteering – MIND recommends volunteering as a positive way to make you feel good, by knowing you are helping others, meet and chat to new people which can help alleviate the feeling isolation.
- Invest in a good box set.
